On Thursday, July 28th, 2022, Elwood was welcomed home by his Lord & Savior at the age of 85 years.
Born in Alliston, Ontario, Elwood (August 13th, 1936) was the first of two sons (second – Ralph, 1943) to enter the home of Frank & Lillian Kirkpatrick. Home was close to the tiny village of Mansfield, Ontario and it was here that Elwood was raised and educated, learnt about hard work on the farm but most importantly the love of family and friends.
While attending Banting Memorial, the high school jock met a pretty little blonde track star who was assigned the locker next to him and on August 10th, 1957, Betty (Holland) would become his wife. Elwood & Betty missed celebrating their 65th Anniversary by 13 days. Elwood would continue his education attending OPP College in 1963, receiving the rank of Constable. He tried his hand at many occupations including: factory work, tobacco picking, postal clerk, truck driver, cleaning serviceman, painter, trail boss, farmer, and eventually retiring after 13 years as an ambulance attendant and driver in Stettler.
He especially loved horses. Elwood loved to read and dreamt of seeing the “Wild West”. At the age of 16 with a couple of close friends he made his first trip west and he knew eventually the West would become home (1974). Elwood loved sports, most notably baseball & hockey. He played & coached both and in later years loved to watch his grandsons play.
Elwood considered among his greatest blessing family. Elwood & Betty were blessed with daughters & son-in-laws: Wes & Ellen Thomas and Mark & Karen Gabert. 4 Grandchildren and their spouses: Kathryn & Ryland Thomas, Logan Gabert, Landon Gabert and Shea & Lyndy Thomas. 2 Great Grandsons: Fielding & Wells Thomas.
Interment: Horn Hill Cemetery (Penhold), Saturday, August 13, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. All were welcome.
