In Loving Memory of
Ethel ‘Eileen’ Schultz
September 18, 1935 – January 11, 2025
It is with profound sadness and love that we mourn the passing of Mrs. Eileen Schultz in Red Deer on
Saturday, January 11, 2025 at the age of 89 years. Eileen passed away peacefully, surrounded by her children, Mike, John, Joanne, and her son-in-law, Tim. Eileen was the beloved second youngest child of Ingvald and Ethel Johnson, born in Frontier, Saskatchewan. Her family moved to Alberta when Eileen was quite young and she spent most of her schooling years (minus Grade 7, as she skipped a grade) in Rosalind, Alberta. After graduating High School, Eileen moved to Edmonton to attend the University of Alberta, where she earned her Teaching Degree in 1952. It was during her first year of teaching in New Norway, Alberta that she met the love of her life, Stan Schultz. They married on July 13, 1957. Together, they welcomed their sons, Michael ‘Mike’ in 1960, William ‘John’ in 1961, and their daughter, Joanne in 1966. Eileen enjoyed a full life of raising her kids and working, which included positions within the Teaching Profession (New Norway and Calgary), as well as secretarial work with Lee Instruments, Calgary, Librarian Assistant at the Misericordia Hospital, Edmonton, Executive Secretary to the Honourable Mr. John Oldring, Red Deer, Family and Social Services Minister, and also as an entrepreneur in the Food Industry, Red Deer. She loved being the wife of Stan Schultz, who managed the Woodward’s Store in Red Deer, from its opening in 1981. They enjoyed many wonderful years together with their family, their Woodward’s family, as well as many other friends. Eileen loved all of her family and friends, which in her later years included her condo friends and neighbours. She lived every day with a smile and a chuckle, along with a little bit of feistiness. She loved most TV shows, especially the Young & the Restless, sports, including curling, football, and hockey, Calgary Flames as her favourite. Socializing and enjoying time with friends was always on her agenda. Every location they lived in (Calgary – twice, Edmonton and Red Deer – a friendly community-based city) they loved and met wonderful friends. They also were lucky to have travelled upon occasion to locations such as Hawaii, Alaska, Arizona and the Caribbean. They also loved to go camping around Alberta & BC. Stan and Eileen were always delighted when children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren visited, called and texted. Eileen lived a wonderful life, always putting the concerns of her family and friends above her own. Our hearts are heavy, but we relish the fact that she is at peace and reunited with her beloved husband, Stan. She will be dearly missed. Eileen will be lovingly remembered by her children, Mike Schultz of Banff, John Schultz of Calgary, Joanne (Tim) Mack of Sherwood Park; her three grandchildren, Baeley (Conor) MacDougall, Kasydi (Brad) Hamaluk, and Dalainey Mack (Evan Loranger); and her three great grandchildren, Leo (16), Saege (8) and Nash (5), as well as her many other relatives and friends. Additionally, she is survived by her brothers, Oscar Johnson (97), Ray (93) and Allan (77). Eileen was predeceased by her parents, Ingvald and Ethel Johnson, her sister, Adaline (94), and her husband, Stanley Sheane Schultz (83) in 2021. We all miss Stan dearly and now remember them both fondly and celebrate their memories. The family would like to thank Dr. McIntyre, all the staff at the Red Deer Regional Hospital and the Red Deer Hospice for the wonderful care Eileen received! A Celebration of Eileen’s Life will be held at Parkland Funeral Home, 6287 – 67A Street Red Deer, Alberta on Sunday, February 23, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. It would be appreciated if there are special memories anyone would like to share, please write a memory note to give to Eileen’s family as a memento.
