Our family is sad to announce the passing of Glenn Lewis McNair Sr., peacefully at the age of 89 on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at the Rocky Mountain House Hospital, with his family by his side. Glenn was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, to Austin and Paula McNair on April 28, 1935. Glenn was a lifelong learner. He was a talented builder, artist, craftsman on the lathe, a woodworker and photographer. He could build anything and fix everything. Dad loved to travel and to learn languages, and to play the mouth organ around the campfire. He embraced technology and digitalized all of the family slide pictures onto the computer in photoshop. Dad had a dog by his side all his life and raised and trained working border collies. He competed in dog trials throughout Alberta and all the way down to Oregon. He was a respected and well-liked teacher at Crescent Heights High School in Calgary where he developed the graphic arts program. Before that he worked at the Saskatoon Star Phoenix, the Albertan, and the Calgary Herald. Dad embraced lifelong learning in a variety of areas but he was ultimately and foremost a family man. Dad met the love of his life, Valerie, at the roller rink in Saskatoon. They ended up skating all evening, and were engaged three months later. Mom was always his ultimate partner as they skated through life together. He was adventurous and he did everything with Mom by his side. He was interested and talented in many areas, but mom was his ultimate passion. Dad would take the family on summer-long camping and hiking trips in the mountains and we hiked every mountain trail in the Rockies. He loved the outdoors and passed on that legacy to his family. He was a quiet and unassuming gentleman. Dad was a patient, understanding, loyal, and wise husband and father who will always be remembered and greatly missed. Glenn is survived by Valerie, his loving wife of 66 years; his daughter, Nora, and grandchildren, Lauren and Camryn; his daughter, Barbara; his son, Glenn Jr. (Naomi) and grandchildren, Erika and Troy; and his daughter, Brenda (Rick) and grandchildren, William, Graham and Eléna. The family would like to greatly thank all of the healthcare workers who took special care of Glenn for the past three years. Dr. Ludewig, and the nurses and aides at Rocky Hospital, all of the home care ladies at West Country Family Services, and all of the staff at Park Avenue who lovingly cared for him for the past eight months. A family celebration of life will be held at a later date. Dad enjoyed a good laugh. As he lost his mobility the last three years he never complained.
