Edward Walter Moos passed away on August 16, 2021, at the age of 85 years. Eddy was born on November 17, 1935, in Bentley, AB. to Hans and Nora Moos. He grew up on the family farm in Eckville and went to school at the Estonian and Eckville schools. He married Shirley Raabis in January of 1958 and they started their life on the road following Eddy’s career on the rigs. This took them everywhere from Lethbridge, AB., to Mount Le Moray, BC. After ten years they returned home to farm and raise their five children on what is now known as Four Forty Farms; they never fully retired from this lifestyle. Up until recently Eddy could be found on the farm in a tractor or quad helping out where he felt was needed. He was a farmer through and through and loved nothing more than checking cows and doing fieldwork.
Eddy went by many names including, Unkie, Papa, Grandpa Popsicle and Hickaboo. He was well known for his love of hunting and baseball, his refusal to shave until the crop was off, and pretending not to hear the conversations going on around him. He had an opinion about everything and would share his advice with family and friends, asked for or not. Eddy did his best to attend the hockey games, 4-H shows and sporting events of his grandkids throughout the years. Traveling with Eddy was always an adventure, even if he wouldn’t stop for a bathroom break and always insisted on picking the restaurant on the right hand side of the road. Eddy’s laugh was hearty and his memory unwavering. He was stubborn like no other, incredibly loyal and hardworking, and he will be missed.
Eddy was predeceased by his loving wife of 58 years, Shirley; parents, Hans and Nora Moos; sister-in-law, Wendy Scheifele; nephew, Landon Scheifele; and son-in-law, Nelson Parliament. He leaves behind his son, Lane and his daughters, Fallon and family, and Felicia; son, Derek (Sherron) and their children, Alysha, Brant, Caitlin and their families; daughter, Sandra (Dennis) Baxter and their sons, Ben and Ryan; daughter, Brenda and her children, Jamie, Sandy, Joann, Larissa and their families; son, Wes (Kim) and their daughters, Jordan and Mackenzie; 15 great-grandchildren; brother, Clarence (Maira) Moos; sister Dianna Misner; brothers-in-law, Garry (Judy) Raabis and Sid Scheifele; sister-in-law, Debbie Brown; as well as many nieces, nephews, friends and family.
Cremation was entrusted to Parkland Funeral Home and a private graveside service with family was held on August 22nd. A special thanks to the staff at Eckville Manor House for providing Eddy with care, companionship and enjoyment over the past few years. He spoke highly of his time spent there and as such, as an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to the Eckville Manor House.
