1934 ~ Vera Agnes Wilson (née Funk) ~ 2025 "Vera’s later years were filled with books, spiritualism, and close family. She was beloved and is deeply missed. She will be remembered by the blankets and cuddly animals she made, the teacups she passed down, the gifts she gave, and the many connections she helped forge."

WILSON, Vera
1934 – 2025
It saddens the family of Vera Agnes Wilson (née Funk) to announce her passing on Friday, August 22, 2025, just shy of her 91st birthday. Vera was born September 19, 1934, near Swift Current, Saskatchewan, to Helen and Abram Funk.
She shared her prairie farm home with siblings Ted, Shirley, Lorraine, and Ann. As kids, they spent their summer days searching for saskatoons, canning fruit and vegetables, and fishing. From an early age, however, Vera was not a keen carnivore.
In time, she became all the things she wanted to be a Rosicrucian, an artist, and a vegetarian. She also became a mother of five—Jacqueline, Jay, Jesse, Laretta, and Louise. They lived with the children’s father and adoptive father, Jay Wilson, on a farm east of Big Valley, Alberta.
Vera excelled at traditional tasks such as baking, cooking, sewing, crocheting, gardening, and canning. But what motivated her most was creating beautiful things.
A multi-talented artist, Vera learned to paint with watercolours and built a large collection of paintings featuring the Rocky Mountains, the Boreal Forest, and the local countryside. She hosted dinners with exquisite, delicious food and once worked with a catering company in Atlanta, Georgia, providing elaborate gingerbread houses and cakes.
Vera’s later years were filled with books, spiritualism, and close family. She was beloved and is deeply missed. She will be remembered by the blankets and cuddly animals she made, the teacups she passed down, the gifts she gave, and the many connections she helped forge.
