It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Mr. Walter Dimitri Glubish at Red Deer on Friday, January 22, 2021 at the age of 86 years. As an only child, young Walter was raised a man of the earth and felt grounded by his Ukrainian roots. He enjoyed spending every summer with his cousins, Julius and Lloyd at the Yankowski farm near Lamont. His arrival was greatly looked forward to, for boyhood adventures and a break from farm chores. Even as the years changed, the Yankowski cousins stayed in touch with Walter. Walter, along with John Hawreschuk and Ken Olinyk, formed a bond for life – the importance of this connection was integral. Each fondly recalls the special relationship he had with his dogs in early years, all of whom were affectionately named Sandy. Walter grew to be a successful man in his work, across Canada, and as far as Africa. To him, living meant willful engagement, caring and doing. In more recent years, Walter’s unwavering dedication to his wife, Suzanna and friends in hospice care to provide support, care and just a friendly visit was greatly indicative of his gentle and considerate spirit. To be known for simple kindness in life is a splendid legacy. Walter had a big heart and was always there if you needed him. He was a rare individual and we’re grateful he’s now at peace. Walter volunteered endless hours at the Red Deer Public Library, Red Deer Hospice and the West Park Nursing Home. Walter will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Suzanna and his stepchildren, Ineke (Dan) Machnee, Pieter Langstraat (Jodi Goodrick) and his children, Colin and Aaron Langstraat, and Sue Merry and her children, Serina Blair and Lyfanwy Merry. He will also be sadly missed by his cousins and numerous other family and friends. Walter was predeceased by his devoted parents, Dan (1980) and Verna (2006 nee Olinyk) Glubish, who married in 1933 in Wostok, Alberta. No Funeral Service will be held. Cremation entrusted to Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, Red Deer, Alberta. If desired, Memorial Donations in Walter’s honor may be made directly to the Red Deer Hospice Society at www.reddeerhospice.com. Condolences may be sent or viewed at www.parklandfuneralhome.com.
