It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother, Joan Regnier (nee Hendrix), in her home, with her family by her side, on Friday, October 29, 2021, at the age of 87 years. Joan was born in Drumheller in 1934, a coalminer’s daughter. When she was four years old (1938), her father died in a mine explosion, her mother took her four young children back to native England where she had the support of her parents. War broke out in 1939 and England was threatened. In August 1940, they were able to get passage on a passenger boat with a convoy escort of destroyers and battleships being sent back for repairs. They also had air support until they got out of the danger zone. With civilians and wounded soldiers, their boat carried some of Great Britain’s gold bullion for safe keeping in Canada. The passenger boat and convoy which left England a week later was attacked, and sunk, by German torpedoes. The family then settled in Willow Creek, where the children went to school. Joan raised her family and lived most of her adult life in Red Deer. She started work as a homemaker in the Group Homes at Michener Centre and became a manager of a group home, until she retired in 1999. Joan’s interest in human nature attracted her to the study of handwriting analysis. She graduated from the International Graphoanalysis Institute in 1986. Joan’s study and insight gave many people an understanding of themselves. Joan will be lovingly remembered by her two sons, Rick (Betty) and Jeff (Pat), her two daughters, Linda (Doug) and Brenda (Chris), her ten much loved grandchildren, and her seven much loved great grandchildren. She will also be sadly missed by her sisters-in-law, Joanne Hendrix and Chris Hendrix, and her long time companion, Svend Anderssen. Joan was predeceased by her father, Martin Sprela, her stepfather, Pete Hendrix, her mother, Laurie Bunn, her husband, Tony Regnier, a brother, Steve Hendrix, her twin sisters, Daphne and Wally Admussem and a brother, Bill Hendrix. A Celebration of Mom’s life will be held in the spring. We extend our deepest appreciation for the outstanding care by the Palliative Home Care Nurses, Dr. Choudry and Dr. Lui. Your Kindness will always be remembered.
