It is with deep sadness we announce the sudden passing of Yvonne Jeanne Smith in Red Deer, Alberta on Wednesday, November 24, 2021 at the age of 87 years. Jean, as she was often referred to by her closest friends and family, was born in Toronto, Ontario and grew up moving around Southern Ontario. Jean married young and had four wonderful children, two daughters and two sons. She worked a few different jobs but settled on accounting, working for the same company for sixty four years regardless of retiring from the company three times. She was involved with the Girl Guides for eighteen years, wearing five different hats. She was instrumental in introducing the Duke of Edinburgh Award program into her area and was presented a Leader’s Certification at Queen’s Park in May of 1980, by Governor General Pauline McGibbon. She married Larry Smith in 1998 and welcomed his three daughters into her family. After Larry’s passing, Jean moved to Port Perry and did the accounts for her oldest daughter Pams’ store. After her husband Bill passed away, she moved in with Pam. In 2014, Jean moved to Red Deer and made many new friends, joining the Red Hatters where the lovely ladies made her feel so welcomed. Jean has had a good life with much love. The family would like to say a special thank you to the Red Deer Fire Department, Red Deer Emergency Medical Services and the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre Staff for easing her pain just short of her eighty eighth year. A Celebration of Life was held on Sunday, November 28, 2021 at the Davenport Club house, in Jeans Park, Red Deer.
