Violet Logan, 90, a lifelong resident of Sundre, Alberta died on Saturday, June
29, 2024. She was born in 1933, to Bill & Hilda Berling of James River,
Alberta. In 1955 she married Rex Logan and moved to their ranch on
McDougal Flats where she partnered with him in both a ranch &
outfitting business where over the years she raised a family, rode
and drove a lot of horses haying and feeding stock, cooking and
booking hunting trips & sometimes running one of the pack
strings. She range rode, made the fall gathers in the forestry and
kept the ranch going while Rex was away sometimes for months
in the mountains, often she wasn’t out on the trail with him. When
home she hosted, feed and mothered a large and varied bunch
both two and four footed. Many will remember her from hosting the Tepee Party at the
ranch post and often pre Sundre rodeo and Canada Rides trips to
the NFR. She was an avid follower of rodeo and hockey and in her younger
days curled and won the occasional pack horse race. An active
member of Search and Rescue, a dedicated contributor to the
Cowboy’s Benevolent Fund and the Canadian Rodeo Hall of
Fame and a private support to many more. Violet is survived by her children Brenda and Edward, her siblings
Elsie Wiesenborn, Albert Berling, Roald Berling, Jean Reaume,
Wilhelmina Prebushki and James Berling, grandchildren Bradley
Logan (Angie DoCouto) & Leanne Logan and great-grandchildren
Ashley Logan & Bryce Logan and too many special friends to
mention as I’d hate to miss someone. She was preceded in death by her husband Rex Logan, son Gary
Logan, brother Balder Berling and sister Nell Stevenson.
As per her wishes, following cremation there will be a private
gathering at a future date for close family and friends.
