It is with great sadness that the family of Scott announce his passing on January 27 at the age of 88. Scott was born and raised in Olds where he attended Olds College. His interest in the automotive industry led him to operating a BA Garage in Didsbury. He met Betty Rupp who he was married to for 25 years. In that time, Scott and Betty settled down in the Didsbury area and raised their two kids, Rick and Carol. In 1975 the family moved to the farm north of Olds.
Scott found his true calling with auctioneering. He started at Olds Auction Mart, and then struck out on his own starting Scott Hunter Auction in the late 1970’s: selling farm equipment, vehicles, farms, land and antiques across Alberta. He enjoyed starting new businesses including the Calgary Wholesale Auto Auction, Edmonton Wholesale Auto Auction, Scott Hunter Sales Pavilion in Didsbury, and the Red Deer Auto Auction.
Scott had many passions through out his life and excelled in all of them. He always enjoyed watching and going to Stampeders and Flames games. He owned racehorses and liked to go to the track and enjoyed the winner’s circle. In 1976 he won a gold metal in the Alberta Summer games in skeet shooting. Flying planes became a passion later in life, a bit for pleasure, but also to get him across the province faster.
He had many good friends and always had fond memories of their shenanigans. He retired in Red Deer, buying, repairing, and selling vehicles out in his garage. He was a local handyman/repairman and was well liked by his neighbors. He was always willing to come and look at a problem and to lend a helping hand, be emotional support or hand you a drink.
Scott was true to his roots and always stayed close to his family. He is survived by his two children Rick Hunter and Carol (Pat) Williams. He had six grand children Chis Hunter, Tara (Ryan) Moore, Richard (Cheri Johnston) Hunter, Brad (Kathryn) Williams, Cole (Aly) Williams, Todd (Sheryl) Williams. He also had 8 great grand children and one great-great grandchild.
A private celebration of life will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada at www.alzheimer.ca/en/take-action/donate
