Mrs. Gweneth Veer passed away quietly in her sleep on Saturday, November 23, 2024 at the age of 91 years. Born to Stanley and Helen Hosier on August 29, 1933, Gwen was the youngest of three children. She was born in Foxford, Saskatchewan and moved to Sundre, Alberta, where she met and married Edwin Veer on March 14, 1952. The couple raised their six children on the family farm in Sundre, before moving to Vilna in 1979. Diamond Limousin, the cattle ranch ran by Gwen, Betty and Judy, was Gwen’s pride and joy and she would often say “if you can hold on to the old cow’s tail, she’ll pull you through the hard times”. Gwen was proud when she could raise a liner load of calves that topped the market and that the buyers were looking for her calves the next year. From chores to cheering her family members on Gwen could be found sharing conversations and opinions with her many friends and acquaintances. She loved to accompany Betty and Judy and keep track of the times at the various rodeos/jackpots. Gwen could always be found in the stands with her pen and notebook, tracking results and figuring out the time splits. Of course, she was most satisfied when her people won! With Betty’s passing, Gwen and Judy sold the Vilna ranch and returned to Sundre in 2014. She remained an active part of the operation, running the mower, baler, and tractor, feeding her cows in the winter until 2020. Gardening, picking berries and camping in the mountains in the summer and sewing, knitting, and cooking were some of Gwen’s favorite past times. Gwen was a force to be reckoned with. If you asked for an opinion, you’d better be ready to hear an honest answer. You never told her no, as she would find a way. All of 5’2”, with the will of a lioness, she lived by the law of “where there is a will there is a way” and if you weren’t going to help, get out of the way. Use your brain, not brawn, but sometimes you might have to beat on it! We’re sure Gwen will be rounding up her limousine cattle herd with Edwin and Betty, listening to Betty play the guitar and probably dancing with Edwin once more. She is lovingly remembered by her children, Peter and Josie, Suzanne Comfort, Nancy and Gary Davis, Christina Noll and Judy Veer, her grandchildren, Matthew and Kim Veer, Pam and Durand Hebner , Terry Comfort, Chad and Kim Comfort, Heather and Byron Reynolds, Andy and Erin Davis, Amanda Davis, Lynsee Noll, Tommy and Molli Noll. She will also be deeply missed by her great grandchildren, Garrett, Kendal, Cheyanne, Grady, Savannah, Jaxon and Elizabeth Daven, Nevada, Gracie, Waylon ,Sean ,Connor, Billie and Daisie. She was predeceased by her husband Edwin and children Stanley and Betty. As per Gwen’s wishes to be warm for once she will be cremated and a memorial service will be held later in the spring.
