WIEBE, Anne
1933 – 2024
Mrs. Anne Wiebe passed away with her family by her side at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre in Red Deer, Alberta, on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at the age of 91 years. She was just one month shy of her 92nd birthday. She left us to join our dad. Her life was not the same after dad passed away nine months ago, and we are confident that Henry met her at the door to greet her and welcome her into his arms again. Anne was born on April 12, 1933, in Hague, Saskatchewan. She was the second-oldest child in a very large Mennonite family. She struck out on her own at an early age, fell in love with Henry, and they were married on June 19, 1954. They welcomed five children into this world, all of whom loved them very much. Mom was the quintessential homemaker, and, man, did she do it all! Cooking and baking – we will always remember the many dishes she made for us children and, later in life, for family dinners. Fresh bread, perogies, pies, Saskatoon tarts, borscht, kielke, New Year’s cookies, pluma moos, and so many homemade soups. She loved to garden and maintained a beautiful yard in the many homes they built and lived in over the years. She was a talented seamstress, and many of our clothes were made by her. She crafted a wedding dress for Paula and a graduation gown for Roxanne. Mom was a saver. She bought herself three cars with her own change, saved from house cleaning jobs and family allowance. She loved to walk, and she and Buffy, her little poodle soulmate, traveled miles a day. Sadly, her walking and independence were slowly eroded by a condition called cerebellar ataxia, and she gradually lost her ability to do the things she loved. After some difficult years of struggling to maintain her residence, the choice had to be made for her to go into assisted living. Mom spent four years at Villa Marie and received wonderful care during her time there. Her physical ailments finally overcame her will to live, and she left us to join Dad. They are together again, and for that, we are grateful. Rest in peace, Mom. We love you. Anne leaves to mourn her loss her children, Carol (Doug) DeWitt, Brenda (Brian) Brezden, Wayne (Jacqueline) Wiebe, Paula (Lonnie) Graham, and Roxanne (Craig) Stillings; her ten grandchildren, Rhonda Fitzgerald, Brett Ashbee, Sherri Giebelhaus (Ryan), Marcie DeWitt (Blake), Amory Ashbee, Megan (Byron) Smolanski, Luke (Tess) Graham, Erin (Blair) Kattler, Kate (Brady) Porter, and Morgan Stillings; and her great-grandchildren, Ash, Hunter, Olivia, Dominic, Ava, Austyn, Autumn, Jake, Lauren, Ryker, Nora, and Vinny. There are also two Littles on the way that Great Grandma and Grandpa will get to hold first. Anne was predeceased by her husband Henry, her parents, and her great-granddaughter, Aubrey Samantha Fitzgerald. At Anne’s request, no funeral service will be held. Cremation entrusted to Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, Red Deer, Alberta. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed at www.parklandfuneralhome.com
