It is with profound sadness that the family of Mr. Paul Dittrick announces his passing at the Rosefield Care Centre in Innisfail, Alberta on September 6, 2025 at the age of 92 years.
Paul was born on June 5, 1933 to John and Josephine Dittrick. He was the fifth of seven children, spending his early years in Claybank, Saskatchewan and later Avonlea, Saskatchewan. Paul was a curious, intelligent, mechanically minded young man who loved fixing motorcycles and small engines after the farm chores were done. A strong work ethic, deep loyalty and marvellous sense of humour was characteristic of Paul and his family.
After completing high school, Paul started working at the Bank of Nova Scotia in Avonlea, as a ledger keeper, he then worked his way up through each position until becoming Bank Manager. His transfers in the bank took him to various branches in Manitoba, Alberta and finally Innisfail.
In 1957, he met the love of his life, Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Campbell and they were married on June 8, 1957. Two daughters and two sons completed their family.
Paul retired from Scotiabank in 1988. He and Betty travelled to visit friends and family in Australia and New Zealand in 1991. Future travels were sadly cut short when Betty was diagnosed ALS and passed in 1995.
In 2005 Paul met Gwen Park, and they married in 2010. The next 12 years were filled with love, happiness and fun, and a new welcoming family who, along with his family cared for and loved him through his battle with dementia.
Paul is lovingly remembered by his wife Gwen Park, his four children, Marybeth (David), Margaret (Jacques), Duncan (Shirley), and Dan, his six grandchildren, Lorenzo, Kallista, Daniel, Ross, Sydney, and Hayley, his sister Mary of Regina, Saskatchewan and his brother Joe of Winnipeg, Manitoba, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Paul was predeceased by his wife Elizabeth (Betty), his parents John and Josephine, his sisters Sabina and Betty, his brothers Evalt and Lou and two nephews, Gary and Richard.
Paul’s family would like to extend their deep gratitude to the staff at Horizon House Centennial Centre and Rosefield Care Centre for the kindness, humour, professionalism and gentle understanding while caring for Paul in their facilities.
A private family interment will take place at the Olds Cemetery where Paul will join Betty again. A Celebration of Paul’s life was held at the Innisfail United Church on Saturday, September 13, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. If you are unable to attend the Celebration of Life for Paul, go to www.innisfailuc.org and the service was streamed you may watch it now.
