1933 ~ Mr. John ‘Jack’ Neill ~ 2024 "When you come to The edge of all the light you have, and must make a step, into the known darkness of the unknown, either there will be something solid for you to stand on, or You will FLY….. Save the last dance for me!"

Mr. John ‘Jack’ Neill, beloved husband of sixty-five years to Mrs. Lorna Neill, (nee McDonald) passed away at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre on Thursday, July 18, 2024 at the age of 90 years. Jack was born on December 21, 1933, at Marmora County, Ontario to John and Myrtle Neill. He was the second oldest of six children. Jack joined the Airforce in 1956 to see the world and made this his career of twenty-six years. While stationed in Claresholm, Alberta, he met his life partner, Lorna, at a country schoolhouse Saturday night dance, in Monarch, Alberta. Jack and Lorna were married at the Iron Springs United Church on July 11, 1959. (I cannot imagine Lorna’s mom and dad watching everything being crushed into a small Volkswagen car and heading east for the 3,000-mile drive). Two sons, Gregory and Jeffrey were born in the hospital at Middleton, Nova Scotia. Several postings took our Military family across Canada, and Jack retired in Red Deer, as a member of the RCAF. Subsequent employment was with the Canadian Defense Department, where he spent ten years and then fully retired. Jack and Lorna were Canadian Snowbirds for ten years and made many friends and memories. Our family is so grateful that Jack was so devoted to his family. Jack will be lovingly remembered by his wife of sixty-five years, Lorna Neill; his two sons, Greg of Red Deer and Jeffrey (Judy) of Edson, Alberta; his four grandchildren, Jackie (Jamie) Neill, Amanda Davidson, Terri (Randy) Zielke, and Kurtis Neill; and eight great grandchildren, Brooklyn, Logan, Hailey, and Jayden Zielke and Justin, Jennifer, Jeremy and Jackson Neill. Jack will also be sadly missed by his brothers, Jim, Bill and Hugh (Carol Ann) and his sister, Jean (Elwood) Ward, all of Ontario; his brother-in-law, Moe Larson of Lethbridge, Alberta and his sisters-in-law, Jacquelyn Lindhout of 100 Mile House, British Columbia and Monique McDonald of Surrey, British Columbia, as well as numerous family members and dear friends. Jack was predeceased by his parents and a sister, Ann.
When you come to
The edge of all the
light you have, and
must make a step,
into the known darkness
of the unknown,
either there will be
something solid for
you to stand on, or
You will FLY…..
Save the last dance for me!
