It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of John ‘Jack’ David Allen Scott at the Extendicare Michener Hill, Red Deer, Alberta on Thursday, May 15, 2025, at the age of 92 years. Jack was born on January 29, 1933 in Stonehaven, New Brunswick, to Gladys and Warren Scott. He was the eldest of seven children. Jack married Geraldine ‘Gerry’ Godin in Dalhousie, New Brunswick on October 29, 1954. Together they raised their five children in Point La Nim, New Brunswick. While he was helping to raise his children with Gerry, he was employed at the ‘Pulp & Paper Mill’ in Dalhousie, New Brunswick as a third class engineer in the steam plant. Jack loved to putter around, especially when it came to cars, fishing and hunting. Stock car racing in northern New Brunswick was one of his passions in his early days, winning multiple championships at Danny’s Speed Bowl in Bathurst, New Brunswick. Jack loved to fish, going out on the ice in the winter to fish for smelts, then going out on his boat named ‘Pat & Ann’ in the summer to drag for scallops. After retiring from the mill, Jack and Gerry decided to move to Alberta in 1992 to be with their children and grandchildren. After being bored for a couple of years in the prairies, his passion for fishing sent him out to the other side of the country. Jack along with Gerry decided to become seasonal campers and fishermen in Port Alberni (China Creek), British Columbia for the months of May to October every year to fish salmon and to trap prawns. Through the years Jack made some wonderful friends. He was always talking and thinking about them and family. He was kind and generous donating to many charities every Christmas and willing to help wherever he could. He was a great storyteller, had a wonderful sense of humor and when he didn’t, Gerry was there to keep him in line. He had a great love of sports whether playing them, coaching or just watching in person or on TV, he enjoyed hockey, curling, baseball, football, and most recently lacrosse. He was even involved in some way with his grandchildren’s sports. Jack will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by his children Wayne, Brian (Carol), Jeff (Sharon), Krista (Paul) Hall, his grandchildren, Natasha, Jonathan (Irene), Lindsay (Rob) Maides, Kelsey, Griffen, and Genna, his great grandchildren, Austin, Mia, Emma, Charlotte, and Audrey, his sister, Carol (Kenny) MacAllister, and his brothers, Winston, Howard, Bob (Theresa), and Gary, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. Jack was predeceased by his wife, Geraldine, his daughter, Brenda, his parents, Gladys and Warren, and his brother, Syd. Jack lived a fulfilled life. He will be missed, loved and in our hearts forever. The family would like to give many thanks to Innisfail Homecare Staff for their wonderful relationships and help they gave over the past few years. A Private Family Graveside Service will be held in June.
