It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mr. Frederick (Fred) Thomas Allen, who passed away peacefully at his farm home near Carstairs, September 12, 2026 at the age of 93 years. Born August 7, 1933 at Elm Creek, Manitoba, an active farm boy, he began his education locally, and upon graduating his twelfth year, he assumed a teaching position in a one roomed schoolhouse for one year. He continued with 2 years post-secondary in Winnipeg then a following 2 years at Guelph. He began working on the rigs and oil patch which led to him to Alberta. In Didsbury he met Doreen (nee Ray) who became his wife of 67 years. Fred also worked at the Atlas Lumber Company in Didsbury, later known as Revelstoke. He was promoted to Manager in Airdrie and later to Carstairs. The Atlas Lumber Company office building can now be viewed at Heritage Park. He was called back to the rigs for a further 5 years and various other jobs. He then worked at the Canadian Superior gas plant at Harmattan until his retirement and then took up full-time farming on the farm they had purchased in 1971. He and Doreen raised purebred cattle under the prefix of Alalta Acres Red Angus selling seedstock and bulls. He served in various community endeavors with Cub scouts, Canadian Red Angus Promotional Society, and Parish Council among other things. He is survived by wife Doreen, son Darryl, daughter Laurie Hunter (Ron), son Darcy (Darla), and son Kevin. Grand children Nikki Allen (Graham), Gregory Allen, Jared Hunter (Garilyn), Ryan Hunter, Travis Hunter (Alexandra), Emma Allen, Donovan Allen, and 7 great grandchildren. Survived by sister Nora Wilbur of Cobblehill, B. C. and sister-in-law Marg Allen of Glenella, Manitoba, brothers in law Cecil (Barbara) Ray and Jack (Sandie) Bellamy. He was predeceased by parents Tom and Mary Allen, siblings Helen (Peter) Stoneman, Jim (Margaret) Allen, Grace (Joe) St. Hillaire, John Allen, Dennis Allen, brothers in law Leon Ray, Gale Ray and sister-in-law Carol Bellamy, and grandson Brett Allen.
A private family service will take place at a later date. If desired, memorial donations in Fred’s name may be graciously made to a charity of your choice.
