Margaret Emma “Marge” Schroeder was born in Melville, Saskatchewan. She was raised in Duff, Saskatchewan and was the eldest daughter of Carl and Emily Lange. Margaret moved to Edmonton, Alberta, to attend Concordia College. Early in her career, she cared for a family in exchange for room and board while pursuing her education. She also worked as a secretary before dedicating herself to raising her children. Margaret directed church choirs at both Peace Lutheran Church in Grenfell, Saskatchewan, where her husband served as minister, and later at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church. Around 1970, after moving to Red Deer, Margaret began working at Eventide Funeral Chapel, where she excelled as a funeral director. She later joined Parkland Funeral Home and continued serving families well into her seventies. Margaret was one of the first female funeral directors in Alberta and took special care to support countless families during their times of need. Margaret’s first husband was Luther Schroeder, with whom she raised five children. At the age of 75, she married Dave Johnston. She travelled widely and enjoyed gardening, music, and spending time with family and friends. Margaret will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. She is lovingly remembered by her children, Jonathan (Simone, deceased), (Crystal) Schroeder of Calgary, Alberta; Steven (Cindy) Schroeder of Calgary, Alberta; Theresa (Tim) Neigum of Red Deer, Alberta; Linda (Roy) Mills of Parkland County, Alberta and Timothy (Elizabeth) Schroeder. Margaret was predeceased by her parents, Carl and Emily Lange, and her daughter-in-law, Simone.
