It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mrs. Ruth “Sylvia” Weatherald, who passed away at the Red Deer Hospice on Sunday, September 27, 2026, at the age of 93 years. Sylvia was born on September 28, 1932, in Wawota, Saskatchewan, to Edward and Ruth (nee Thompson) Richards. She married Don Weatherald on June 7, 1952.
A devoted homemaker and avid gardener, Sylvia found joy in the simple things in life. She later worked as a homecare worker in Prince Albert, where she cared for others with the same kindness and compassion, she showed to her family and friends. In 2005, Sylvia moved to Alberta, where she made many wonderful friendships and enjoyed taking part in a variety of activities.
Sylvia was a seasoned Scrabble player and a talented crocheter. She lovingly created many blankets, kitchen towels, and other handmade treasures, often giving them to family and friends. Her humble nature, strong faith, and devotion to those she loved will be remembered by all who knew her. Sylvia will be lovingly remembered by her children, Sylvia will be lovingly remembered by her children, Donna (Dan) Cutting of Regina, Saskatchewan; Bill (Diana) Weatherald of Three Hills, Alberta; Bob Weatherald (Brandy Lane) of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan; Mike (Marilyn) Weatherald of Ponoka, Alberta; and Doreen (Paul) Belliveau of Red Deer, Alberta; her grandchildren and families, Paul (Cambri & Vaenna), Jeff, Scott (Viviana), Adam (Shayla & Holden), Daniel (Tessy), Christopher, Andrew, Tanya (Paul), Kimberly (Mike), Amie, Colby (Annie, Baker & Crosby), Connor (Brooke & Kinsley), Meredith, (Rochelle & Avrielle), Tosha (Brady). She will also be missed by numerous family members, dear friends and her sister, Patricia (Ken) Birch of Manitoba.
Sylvia was predeceased by her parents, Edward and Ruth; her husband, Don; her brothers, Herb, Ken, Aubrey, and Keith; and her sisters, Catherine and Mary. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends, who will cherish the love, faith, kindness, and handmade treasures she shared throughout her life.
