It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Mrs. Mary Duffy of Red Deer, Alberta, after a lengthy battle with heart disease, on Monday, April 12, 2021 at the age of 88 years. Mary was born on August 13, 1932 in Delburne, Alberta. She was the fourth of five children born to Olga and Bill Ruzycki. Mary was raised on a small farm by Delburne, where she also attended school. Mary worked at the Delburne Creamery and at Alpha Dairies in Red Deer. While at Alpha Dairies, she met her future husband, Ken Duffy. They were married on June 28, 1958. Mary loved flowers, gardening, animals and nature. She was very fond of the chickadees and robins visiting her garden. She instilled her love of gardening and love for flowers in her daughters. Mary loved planting a vegetable garden every year and loved tending to her garden and flowers. Mary delighted in playing “High Q” with all of her grandchildren. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting in her spare time but nothing beat the love she had for her family. Her daughters and grandchildren are her greatest legacy and she is going to be sadly missed by everyone that knew her. Mary will be lovingly remembered by her husband of sixty-two years, Ken Duffy; her daughters, Kathy (Ed) Ryan and Patti Duffy (Terry Zipp) and her four grandchildren, Craig, Stephen, Micheal and Katie; her brother, Walter Ruzycki and her sister, Jennie Saley; as well as numerous family members and dear friends. Mary was predeceased by her parents, Olga and Bill Ruzycki; her sister, Vanda Whyte; her brother, Bill; her nephew, Dougie Saley and her niece, Cheryle Kromm. Mary’s family would like to extend a special “Thank You” to Dr. Susan Konynenbelt for her many years of care for Mary. Cremation entrusted to Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, Red Deer, Alberta. If desired, Memorial Donations in Mary’s honor may be made directly to the Red Deer Food Bank at www.reddeerfoodbank.com. Condolences may be sent or viewed at www.parklandfuneralhome.com.
