Mrs. Dorothy Coulthard Calvert (nee Bateman), passed away peacefully on Friday, June 4, 2021 at the age of 88 years. Dorothy was born in Innisfail on October 31, 1932, to David and Gertrude Bateman. Mom grew up surrounded by the love of a large family, and shared many happy adventures with her siblings, cousins and friends. She attended the Niobe School and went on to graduate from Lindsay Thurber Comprehensive High School. Shortly after graduation, a young man came along and caught her eye. On December 6, 1950 she married Delbert Calvert. With a kiss for luck, they were on their way. Together Dorothy and Delbert welcomed two children to their family, Charlie and Colleen. Dorothy was meant to be a mother. She happily volunteered and did more than her share in every opportunity. Mom and Dad worked side by side to build their farm. And, in the mid 1970’s, Mom also started working at the Innisfail Co-op Hardware. In 1992, Mom’s heart grew a little bit larger when Colleen married Tim Donald. She found a special place in her heart for that boy, who loves old trucks, and has the ability to eat four warm cookies at a time. Mom’s life became complete the day she became a grandmother. Avery was born in 1995 and Kaylyn in 1998. Mom was an amazing grandmother. As she did in her role as a mom, she embraced every opportunity to craft, bake, cuddle and encourage. Dorothy will be lovingly remembered by Colleen, Tim, Avery and Kaylyn. She will also be sadly missed by her two sisters, her brother, one sister-in-law and one brother in law; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and all of the special friends she tucked in, and loved, along the way. Dorothy was predeceased by a son, Charlie in 1972, her husband, Delbert in 2008 and many other family and friends that were part of her journey. If desired, Memorial Donations in Dorothy’s honor may be made directly to the Innisfail United Church, 4720 – 48 Ave. Innisfail, Alberta T4G 1N6.
