1932 ~ Irene Cara Johnson ~ 2022 "She was a loving and caring person to everyone she met."

With family at her side, Irene passed away peacefully on May 8, 2022 and is now “singing with the angels”.
Irene was the cherished mother of Candy (Dave), Kathy (Mark), Allen (Kim) and Gord (Noelle) and loving Grandmother to Christopher, Leanne, Kevin, Chanda, Mathew, Dane, Maren, Justin, Catlin, Britney and 6 great grandchildren. Irene was predeceased by her husband, the love of her life, Ken and her sister Sylvia. She is survived by sisters Joanne (Bob) and Georgie (Bruce). She will be sadly missed by her sisters and their families. Irene was born in Kerrobert , Saskatchewan on August 5, 1932. Her Dad, George Allen played in the NHL and passed on his love for the game to Irene. She was an ardent and vocal Calgary Flames fan and loved her Blue Jays and Stampeders. Irene graduated from nursing in1954 and worked at the Calgary General Hospital and the Drumheller municipal hospital. It was there she met RCMP constable Ken, whom she married in 1956. Ken and Irene moved to Calgary to raise their family and had many lifelong friends. They spent their retirement winters in Mesa, Arizona. Irene continued to travel to Mesa enjoying many more years with friends. Irene will always be remembered by her family, singing and enjoying life. She was a loving and caring person to everyone she met. Her selflessness and sense of humour was evident to all. The family thanks the wonderful staff in the Long Term Care Unit of the Didsbury Hospital. Their love and dedication were extremely helpful in her last two years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Rosebud Health Foundation – Didsbury District Health Services Unit 1. A drop in celebration of Irene’s life will be held on June 18, 2022 at the Calgary Legion (9202 Horton Road SW) between 11:00am – 2:00pm.
