It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Murvyn Cowan, formerly of Gainsborough SK, at the age of 91 years. He slipped away peacefully after a brief illness, with his family lovingly by his side.
Murvyn Allen Cowan was born to Linda and Arthur Cowan on August 24, 1931 and was the 6th of their family of 12 children. He attended school in the Fern District in his younger years and then took a Gas and Diesel Mechanic Course at Saskatoon University in 1954-55.
Murvyn married Joan Dunster on October 15, 1960. Together they farmed and raised their children north of Gainsborough. Murvyn served on the Gainsborough Credit Union Board of Directors and also on the Board for the Gainsborough Housing Authority (Evergreen Lodge). Murvyn and Joan moved into town in 2005 and then moved to Olds Alberta in 2015 to be closer to their family. Murvyn enjoyed wood carving, playing cards, curling, golfing, dancing and visiting with family and friends.
Murvyn is lovingly remembered by his wife of 62 years Joan and their children Darlene (Mike) Ohlhauser and Rodney (Nadine) Cowan. Murvyn was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He leaves to mourn his granddaughters Lyndsay Carver (Curtis), Kelsie (Ryan) Ekdahl, Danica and Darci Cowan and his little great-grandsons Thomas and Jonathan Ekdahl. Murvyn is also survived by his sisters Bernice Ward, Iola Hubner, Cecelia (Norman) Smith, brother Lyle (Annie) Cowan, sisters in law Yvonne and Priscilla Cowan Mavis (Will) Tishinski and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents Arthur and Linda Cowan, siblings Marg (Ernie) Dell, Theodore Cowan, Dorothy (Ernie) Huget, Phyllis (Mac) Marr, Orval Cowan, Cecil Cowan and Norma Cowan, brothers in law Art Ward, Don Hubner. He was also predeceased by his mother and father in law Bill and Elsie Dunster.
Our dad was the sort of dad that everyone hopes for. His unwavering support inspired his children and grandchildren with strength and confidence. He was a kind and generous man with a witty sense of humour who worked hard all his life to ensure his family was well provided for. He is our role model who we will always look up to and we will miss him dearly.
Your life was love and labour,
Your love for your family true,
You did your best for all of us,
We will always remember you.
Rest In Peace Dad.
