Mrs. Edith A. Scott, beloved wife of G. R. (Kipp) Scott of Red Deer, Alberta passed away peacefully and was Promoted to Glory with her family by her side, on Tuesday, August 20, 2024 at the age of 93 years. Edith married her husband Kipp on November 17, 1950 in Calgary, Alberta. In 1965 they took the bold move of leaving a secure job with Calgary Motor Products and taking on the challenge of purchasing a GM Auto Dealership in Three Hills, AB. In the early years, Edith played the role of bookkeeper, parts deliverer and gas jockey while raising three active children. Within a short time, opportunity knocked and Edith and Kipp moved on to Red Deer where they developed one of General Motors’ most successful dealerships which is now owned and managed by their son, Gordon and grandson, Garrett. Edith was an extremely generous and caring person whose passion was her family and community. Edith and Kipp were forever grateful for the financial assistance they received when first establishing their business and made a lifetime of providing others with their generosity and support. They were renowned for giving those down on their luck a second chance. They infused those around them with an entrepreneurial spirit, encouraging and assisting many to take up the challenge of starting their own businesses. Edith was the consummate host, feeding and nurturing up to twenty family and friends on most holiday occasions. She loved to work with her hands and left each of her children and grandchildren with countless framed “Christmas themed” works. She was a life-long learner, loved geography and history, studied her globe and until recently, completed the crossword daily. Edith was very well travelled and enjoyed many trips and adventures with family and close friends. She had a weakness for fine shoes, a love of navy blue and was most comfortable when decked out in her blue jeans. Edith had a keen understanding of all sports – everything from hockey to cricket. Her ability to keep a baseball scoresheet was the envy of any baseball statistician. Edith’s family and her numerous friends are going to dearly miss her practical, no-nonsense approach to life. Edith had a strong faith, having been raised by her parents Sven and Alma in the Salvation Army Church. She was a big supporter and very active in the local Army. Edith savored memories of travelling with the Army to the Holy Land on two occasions. Edith shared her faith with her family and those around her. That faith lives on today with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Edith was predeceased by her husband Kipp in 2004. She leaves to mourn her loss, her daughters, Connie (Bob) McFarlane and Carol (Rob) Warrender; and her son, Gordon; her six grandchildren, Angela (Dave) Leonard, Nicola (Jeff) Meier, Rachel (Todd) Hicks, Jillian (Jason) Saldanha, Garrett (Linsay) Scott, and Kellie (Cody) Steel; and her thirteen great-grandchildren. She will be sadly missed by her surviving sister, Rachel (Dave) Kirk, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Edith’s Life was held at the Salvation Army Church, 4837 – 54 Street, Red Deer, Alberta on Monday, August 26, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. with Captains Kent and Dena Hepditch officiating. A Private Family Interment will be held at Alto Reste Cemetery at a later date. If desired, memorial donations in Edith’s honour may be made directly to the Red Deer Salvation Army Church, 4837 – 54 Street, Red Deer, Alberta T4N 2G5. The family would like to express their sincere and heartfelt thanks to Dr. John Julyan-Gudgeon, Dr. Simon Ward and the nursing staff in Unit 32 for their kind and compassionate care, Edith’s friend and aide Sheila Bakke for her tender and loving care and the staff of Optima at Aspen Ridge for their warmhearted care and attention.
