GRUSIE, Gilbert
1931 ~ 2026
Mr. Gilbert “Gil” Grusie passed away peacefully at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at the age of 95 years. Gil was born in a small rural community on February 22, 1931, near Burstall, Saskatchewan. He and his family moved to Torrington, Alberta, where he was raised. He met the love of his life, Isabel, in Torrington when he was called to rescue her and her broken-down car. Gil and Isabel married in 1956 and started their own family one year later. One look was all it took as he mentioned many times in passing. The rest was history.
Gil was a hands-on working man. He became exceptionally proficient as a mechanic, welder, water well driller and carpenter – trades that shaped his life and family. He was a passionate car enthusiast and built a one-of-a-kind home-built car called “RRSP, Registered Retirement Sports Project” which he proudly dedicated to his beloved late wife, Isabel who passed in 2003. Gil was also blessed to have a second beloved partner, Gwen Herbert, who passed in 2020.
A devoted father, grandfather, and husband, his legacy of craftsmanship, love, and family will live on in all who knew him. He lived a very full life and navigated through an incredible number of changes in the world. Gil was an honest, caring, kind-hearted Gentleman and was always willing to lend a hand or share his expertise. After all, his motto was: “Gil’s Creations, You breaky, I fixie”. If you had the pleasure to meet and be part of Gil’s life, then you were a “true friend”.
Gil is lovingly remembered by his two sons, Timothy (Debbie), and Jeffrey (Jackie); five grandchildren, Tanner (Michelle) Grusie, Lane Grusie (Keisha Mehak), Taylor (Devin) Ogilvie, Danielle (Tyler) Yaworski, and Michelle (Joshua Cachene-Clark); and four great-grandchildren, Nash, Hannah, Oaklyn and Madison.
In keeping with his wishes, Gil will be cremated and laid to rest beside his wife, our mother, Isabel, to be together again forever. His Private Family Interment will be held at a later date. Cremation entrusted to Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, Red Deer, Alberta. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed at www.parklandfuneralhome.com
