Mr. Dale Laverne Carroll passed away at the Innisfail Health Care Centre on November 2, 2025 at the age of 93 years. Son of Ethel Pearl and William (Hank) Carroll, Dale was born and raised east of Bowden in the Horseshoe Lake District on the family farm. An only child, he grew up with a connection to nature and a knack for adventure. After graduating from Lindsay Thurber High School in Red Deer, he took over the family farm due to his father’s ill health, continuing the tradition of hard work, dedication, and a deep love of the land.
Dale married Marilyn Jean Lewis on November 10, 1956, and together they raised three children: Shauna, Kevin, and Brent. Although he was a busy provider, Dale was also a man of varied interests and fun hobbies. Dale found great joy in flying, buying, selling, and piloting small airplanes and he always had a story from every flight. He loved fishing and camping, as well as hunting trips with lifelong friends. Whether on horseback in his younger days or later on snowmobiles, he was known for stirring up more than one memorable moment along the way. Together, Dale and Marilyn shared a love of travel. They spent many winters as snowbirds, often in Hawaii, creating memories that would last a lifetime. Sadly, Marilyn passed suddenly in 1996.
A few years later, Dale continued to embrace life’s adventures with his long-time companion, Betty Smith. They spent summers in Canada and winters either “boon-docking” on the deserts of Arizona and California, or traveling to other warm destinations like Hawaii. He and Betty explored Western Canada flying, demonstrating, and selling Six Chuter powered parachutes at fairs, rodeos, and parades. In later years, Dale also traveled with his daughter Shauna and her husband Mike, enjoying adventures in Mexico and Hawaii, continuing his love of exploration and family experiences.
Dale was never one to sit still, while his body and mind were always active. He loved golf, music, a good nightcap, and visiting with friends and family. Even in his later years, he found ways to stir things up, like by racing his electric scooter through the halls with his signature mischievous grin, telling stories that made everyone laugh, and always keeping life lively and entertaining. His infectious smile, quick wit, and love of adventure left a mark on everyone who knew him.
Every Friday night, Dale and Betty gathered with family for “happy hour,” sharing supper, laughter, and stories, a tradition that brought joy and created memories that the whole family will treasure forever. Dale is predeceased by his wife Marilyn (1996), his son Brent (2024), and his grandson Jordan (2011).
He is survived by his long-time companion Betty; daughter Shauna (Mike) and son Kevin; grandchildren Kody (Jennifer), Kayli (Devin), Ashleigh, and Brittany; and great-grandchildren Jada, Jenna, Abby, Colton, Annabelle, Madison, Cierra, Shae, Clayton, Jacob, Arianna, and Katherine.
The family would like to thank the outstanding staff, nurses, doctors, and other patients and their families at the Innisfail Hospital for their kindness and compassion during Dale’s hospitalization.
