It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Ed, who passed away on July 24, 2025, at the age of 94 years.
He was born on June 11, 1931, in Walsh, Alberta, to Johannes and Natalia Jans, Ed’s life was a testament to his deep love for his family. He was a devoted husband to Elda for sixty-four years and a cherished father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Ed was a diligent worker, always striving to provide a better life for his loved ones, a goal he achieved with unwavering honor and dignity. His spirit will forever remain with us.
Ed had a passion for horses, cattle, dogs, and cats, and he particularly enjoyed team roping and all aspects of rodeo, animals, and agriculture. He was especially fond of his Team Roping partner “Patch”.
Music was another significant part of his life; he loved playing the guitar and singing whenever he had the opportunity. Professionally, Ed dedicated many years to the CPR and subsequently to the Alberta Wheat Pool in various locations across Alberta for thirty-one years. Beyond his work, he generously volunteered his time and efforts to numerous organizations over the years.
Ed is lovingly remembered by his sons, Keith (Nasim) and Ken (Martha); his grandchildren, Evan, Rachelle (Kevin), Kyle (Olivia), Shelby (Tyler), and Shar (Sanka); and his great-grandchildren, Kennedy, Fox, Indiana, Soleil, Kai, and Koa. He is also survived by his sister, Carol Herman, and his sister-in-law, Bev Jans, along with many nieces and nephews. Ed was predeceased by his beloved wife, Elda; his parents, Johannes “John” and Natalia; his brothers, Raymond (Evelyn) and Bill; his sisters, Laura (George) Schlaht and Margaret “Marg” (Alfred “Alf”) Herrmann; and his brother-in-law, Leslie “Les” Herman.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to everyone at Bethany Collegeside, Red Deer, Alberta for their exceptional care and unwavering commitment to Ed; your dedication is deeply appreciated.
A private service was held at the Olds Cemetery.
