It is with deep sadness that the Donald Walline family announce his passing on Sunday, November 16, 2025 at aged 94 after a brief illness. His last day was spent at home surrounded by family members. Don was born in Camrose to Alison and Joseph Walline on August 8, 1931, the fourth of their nine children. He grew up on the family farm in the Ohaton area east of Camrose, riding horses to the local country school every day with the older of his siblings until he and two older brothers attended High School in Camrose, boarding with a local family.
While attending High School in Camrose, Don met and dated Joan Bowes. They were wed in February 1952 until her passing in 2013 after sixty-one years of marriage.
In the early 1950’s Don gave up his job as a first-year electrical apprentice to join the newly booming oil and gas industry, working for various companies until his retirement in the late 1990’s.
Over the course of his life, Don enjoyed pursuits such as hunting, fishing, and curling, entering many Oilmen’s Curling Bonspiels with his brothers and brother-in-law.
Finding a love of woodworking while in high school, once he retired to Innisfail he opened “Grandpa’s
Workshop” in his garage where he spent the next thirty plus years restoring dilapidated treasures that family members would bring, making them look like new again.
But more importantly Don created and handcrafted literally hundreds of pieces of furniture and other woodworking treasures that family members will always have in their homes to remember Dad, Grandpa Don.
Don will be lovingly remembered by his children, Christine, Bonnie and Keith (Leanne), fourteen
grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; his brothers, Bob and Steve; his sisters, Lois and Doris, and over two dozen nieces and nephews and their families. Don was predeceased by his spouse, Joan, his parents, Alison and Joseph, daughter Victoria, brothers Dennis, Jim, Rod, sister Mildred, and grandson-in-law Jerry.
Cremation has taken place, as per his wishes there will be no funeral, a private interment service will
take place in Camrose at a future date.
The family would like to thank the Nurses and Doctors of the Innisfail Health Care Centre for the wonderful care that they provided Don for his numerous ER visits and his three week stay prior to his passing.
If friends desire, Memorial Donation may be made in Don’s honor to the Innisfail Health Care Fundraising Committee in support of securing new acute care beds for the hospital.
The family wishes to especially thank Dr. Hrdlicka and Amber for their wonderful care and compassion on his final day.
