Mrs. Margaret ‘Shirley’ Patricia Greenwood (nee Dodd), passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 15, 2022, at Innisfail, Alberta, twelve days before her ninety-second birthday. Shirley was born in Ponoka, Alberta as an only child on December 27, 1930. Shirley’s early years were dedicated to Innisfail, Alberta where she spent a lot of time at her grandparents’ farm, which was homesteaded in 1884. Her high school years were spent at Calgary, Alberta where she attended the Western Canada Highschool. This is where she met her high school sweetheart, Cliff Greenwood. After graduation they married and were together for sixty-eight years up until Cliff’s passing in 2015. The Greenwoods welcomed two children, Chris, who was born at Edmonton, Alberta in 1956, and Lori, who was born at Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1958. Cliff’s career had him travelling across Canada as a sales consultant, which left Shirley at home tending to two young children in Calgary, Alberta. Once the children were of age, she decided to go back to work at various places such as Woodward’s in ladies fashion, a merchandise buyer between Calgary, Alberta and Edmonton, Alberta, as well as CIBC as a mortgage underwriter in Calgary, Alberta. Weekends were dedicated to travelling back and forth from Edmonton and Calgary to the family farm. Shirley’s past times included raising her kids, her working career and helping Cliff with the hobby farm, including raising donkeys, cattle, horses, cats, dogs and alpacas. When the day was done, Shirley enjoyed movie marathon time, doing crossword puzzles, reading and watching the sunsets over Dodd’s Lake. The family would like to thank her devoted caregivers at the Sturgeon and the Royal Alec Hospital’s for the treatment of her fractured tibia from March to the end of May 2022 and to the paramedics of the Innisfail District, including the doctors and nurses of the Innisfail Hospital for all their loving care. Shirley will be lovingly remembered and mourned by her son, Ernest Christopher Greenwood, her daughter, Lori Diane Greenwood, her granddaughter, Samantha Michelle Greenwood and her grandson, Jackson Taylor Greenwood. She is predeceased by her loving parents, Hazel Margaret Dodd (nee Bernasconi) and Ernest Edmond Dodd, and her beloved husband of sixty-eight years, Clifford Greenwood. Shirley’s family and friends will miss her presence, her sharp mind, her friendship, her amazing smile, and laughter. In keeping with Shirley’s wishes a formal funeral will not be held, the family will have a Celebration of Life at 5901 -50 Avenue, Innisfail, Alberta, at a later date.
