John passed away peacefully on April 3, 2022 at the age of 91 years. He is lovingly remembered by his niece, Cheryl Beatty, and her children, Jenna, Kaylene, and Kyle, as well as his nephew, Kenneth Wedin, and children Lilan, Emily, and Rebecca. John was predeceased by his younger sister, Helen, and his parents, Carl Lind and Robertina “Bertha” (née Mackay) Lind.
Born in Innisfail, John lived on the family homestead for a remarkable 90 years aside from his residence for the past year at The Hamlets in Red Deer. His father had settled on the mixed farm in the Buffalo Creek District in 1921, naming it Lincrest Farm. John succeeded his father in managing the farm, eventually specialising in raising cattle and growing feed crops.
In his youth, he played the violin, and was a member of the Royal Canadian Air Cadets. He also enjoyed curling throughout the years. John travelled to Hawaii with family, and took an extensive trip to Australia, New Zealand and the UK observing their farming and ranching practices.
Having no children of his own, he mentored many farmhands who came to stay and work on the farm through the years. Even his nephew spent summers learning practical skills and enjoying time on the farm. Johns many beloved dogs and cats remained close companions.
He was close to his numerous aunts and uncles, as well as his neighbours with whom he collaborated in farming local fields and pastures. John was particularly close to his cousin Bob Dixon who continued to visit and help John when he could no longer drive.
John was quiet in nature and lived by his own principles. His extensive knowledge was especially appreciated by all. John and his niece created a special bond spending a great deal of time together in his latter years. She recalls his humour and wit was with him to the very end. He was truly grateful for the care and support in his final years.
