The family of Hilda Schindel announce the departure from this life to her eternal home on Friday, March 28, 2025 at the age of 95 years. Hilda was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on November 21, 1929 to Herman and Ferdinanda Schultz. She was the eldest of five children. In her teenage years, the family moved to Chilliwack, British Columbia.
Hilda spent her young adult years working various jobs in Vancouver. It was during this time that she met her husband Lawrence Schindel. They were married in 1952 and eventually moved their young family to their own farm at Carbon, Alberta in 1963. Together, they spent 37 years raising their family of six children and expanding the farm.
They retired to their new home in Three Hills, Alberta in 2000. The farm remained a big part of retirement life, but they also enjoyed vacations with family and friends.
Hilda loved reading, sewing and the family always enjoyed her delicious homemade bread and buns that were her specialty.
Hilda was predeceased by her Husband Lawrence of sixty years. She is survived by her sons Harvey, Brian (Olga), Robert (Donna), Bradley (Charlene), daughters Norma Langer (Bill), Gayle Chapiel (Terry), ten grandchildren and their spouses and ten great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two brothers, one sister, one brother in law, four sister in laws and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend our gratitude to the many health professionals for the exemplary care they provided Hilda over the past months. We are comforted to know that the Lord took her home to rest in peace without any more sickness or sorrow.
A private graveside service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a Charity of the Donor’s Choice.
