1929 ~ Gwyneth Jane Thompson ~ 2021

Gwyneth Jane Thompson was born and raised in Didsbury, Alberta, the youngest daughter of Havard and Emily Morgan. Gwyn lost her mother to cancer at age 13 and assumed many of the household responsibilities. She played ball as a young woman, was an accomplished piano player and a graceful dancer. Being athletic she also curled and golfed. While being a full time Mom she contributed by taking in borders (they loved her cooking!) and later worked at Didsbury Cartage and Didsbury Post Office. Gwyn was community minded, belonging to Kinettes and K-40’s as well as being a long standing member of Eastern Star holding many stations over 60 years. She did not seek the glory and was most often the hard worker and organizer behind the scenes.
Gwyn and Glen, her husband of 71 years, had an active, interesting life. In the early years (married Nov 9, 1949) they lived in constructions camps across Alberta, spent one winter on the side of a mountain in the Crow’s Nest Pass, lived in a trailer court in Red Deer and resided on an acreage east of Sylvan Lake for 8 years before returning to Didsbury. Glen and Gwyn travelled across parts of Canada and the US in their retirement. They wintered in Mesa, Arizona living life to the fullest and making friends wherever they went.
Best of all, Gwyn had all the attributes of a wonderful wife, mother and friend. She was a positive thinker, kind, non-judgemental, generous, loving and had a fantastic sense of humor. Many acquaintances have called her a lovely person; she was loved by all ages.
Aspen Ridge Lodge in Didsbury has been home for Glen and Gwyn the last few years. They absolutely love the staff and joking with them was a bright spot in their day. The Thompson family would like to thank them for their attentive and loving care.
Gwyn was predeceased by her beautiful, young granddaughter Cara Jane Thompson, parents Havard and Emily Morgan, siblings Joyce Mullen and husband George, Peg Rowland and husband John, Trev Morgan, In-Laws Della and Osborne Thompson, brothers-in-law Osborne Jr. and Bryce Thompson.
Gwyn is survived by her husband Glen; children Rory Wolf (Tim), Terry Russell (Gary), David (Michele Brodoway), Cameron (Beverly Plantz); grandchildren Kimberly Russell (Kevin), Kelly Wolf (Shelly), Avy Wolf (Corey), Lisa Thompson Lenyk (Quentin), Mackenzie Russell Benjamin (David), Brett Thompson (April), Julia Thompson (Trent); great grandchildren, Danielle & Cole Howard, Kai & Noah Lenyk, Lukas & Kade Wolf-Bernard, Delayne Benjamin, Zane Wolf and numerous nieces and nephews.
Gwyn, our amazing Wife, Mother, Grandmother will be missed, loved and forever in our hearts.
Due to Covid restrictions a service will be held at a later date. In recognition of Gwyn’s long term membership with the Order of the Eastern Star, donations may be made in her memory to St. Hilda Chapter No. 27, Box 4, Didsbury, AB T0M 0W0.
