Mr. Mogens Sander of Red Deer, Alberta passed away on Wednesday, October 4, 2023 at the age of 95 years. Mogens was born in Copenhagen, Denmark on July 27, 1928. Mogens married Grete Rasmussen on April14, 1951, and the new bride and groom left Copenhagen aboard the M/S Stockholm on May 7, 1951, arriving in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Pier 21 on May 14, 1951. The couple made the journey to Calgary, Alberta by train, where his aunt and uncle, Ingeborg and Henry were waiting for them. It would be forty-seven years before Mogens would see Denmark again. Mogens and Grete found work on farms in the Rockyford area, rented land in the Brooks area, and in 1959, the couple was able to purchase a farm northwest of Duchess, Alberta. They resided there until 1979, when they relocated to the Sangudo area. After retiring to Red Deer, Alberta, Mogens made several trips back to Denmark with Grete, before her passing in 2005 and again after her passing. He was happy to renew old friendships and reconnect with relatives. Mogens enjoyed spending countless hours pursuing his genealogy hobby. Mogens is survived by his two daughters, Ann Hoopfer and Liz Smith (Bob), his son, Alan Sander, his six grandchildren, Shane Hoopfer (Debbie), Travis Hoopfer (Richelle), Kirstin Smith (Lee Caissey), Cody Smith (Jessica), Lee Sander, Erica Sander (Russ Beairsto); and his nine great grandchildren, Michael Hoopfer, Xander, Kam, Erik and Danika Hoopfer; Sophie and Jacob Smith, Alistair and Tamzin Sander-Beairsto.
