MEYER, Edwin
1928 – 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mr. Edwin John Meyer, who passed away on Friday, November 28, 2025, at the age of 97 years. Edwin was born on September 18, 1928, and became a beloved member of the Red Deer community where he lived a fulfilling and meaningful life. Edwin was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend. He was known for his warm smile, kind heart, gentle spirit, and amazing hugs, always putting other people’s needs above his own. Early in his life he enjoyed driving taxi in Regina. He would tell you that was the best job he ever had. Edwin went on to have a successful career, joining CGTX in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, in 1957 as a tank car repairman. He transferred to Red Deer in 1969 and went on to become inspector and then shop foreman before retiring in 1993. Edwin was a handy man and Mr. Fix it. He built a few houses over the years. When retirement came along, he started welding in the garage, building everything from flower stands to handrails to full sized utility trailers. If you had a small job that needed a little work, he was happy to help out. He enjoyed going for long walks in the neighborhood but most of all he was always up for a challenge from the neighbors for a game of horseshoes. He also enjoyed camping with the neighbors in Fairmont. He started the family tradition of bowling that became a major part of his life and the family’s lives.
Edwin will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Vivian (after 74 years of marriage); their children, Gary (Pat), Gail (Carl), and Beverley (Greg); grandchildren, Brodie (Melissa), Graedy (Nicole), Shayla, Tyler (Shauna), Trevor (Megan), Kent (Sacha), and Rose-Marie (Nixon); and great grandchildren, Dawson, Liam, Lacey, Jaxon, Seth, Greta, Cruz, and Jett. Edwin was pre-deceased by his parents, John and Amalia; and his sister, Nora. Edwin’s memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
