We are sad to announce the passing of Mrs. Viola Amelia Holliday at Extendicare Michener Hill, Red Deer, Alberta on Friday, June 28, 2024 at the age of 97 years. Viola was born in the family home in the Morrin District to Stanley and Elsie Cosens on April 14, 1927. She attended Lloyd George Public School and completed High School in Drumheller. She married Albert Holliday on June 14, 1947. Albert and Viola farmed together and raised their family in the Morrin area, near west Michichi Creek, for twenty-six years. Viola enjoyed gardening, curling, playing cards, and crocheting beautiful Afghans for all the members of her family. She was a skilled seamstress, an excellent cook, and was always reading a book. They sold the farm in 1973 and moved to Red Deer, Alberta, where Viola was employed at the Red Deer Hospital assisting in the Pharmacy Department, until she retired in 1987. She and Albert enjoyed travelling and camping in their later years. She loved to visit with friends and family and was especially entertained by her grandkids and great grandkids. Viola will be fondly remembered and missed by all those who knew her. Viola will be lovingly remembered by Doug’s children, Donna (Tim) Wilson, Daryl (Christina), and Derek (Stacey), and Doug’s partner, Rose Pallotta; her daughter, Connie (Aldo) Raffin and her children, Rhonda (Peter) Anderson, and Randy; her son, Stanley (Patricia) and his children, Michael, and Jennifer (Mike) Holliday-Waldner; her daughter, Vivian (Brent) Brommeland and her children, Deanna and Carly; her thirteen great grandchildren and her three great great grandchildren. She will also be sadly missed by her brother, Roy (Molly) Cosens and her numerous nieces and nephews. Viola was predeceased by her sister, Verna Chandler; her husband, Albert Holliday in 2002; and her son, Douglas Holliday of Brampton, Ontario on May 28, 2024. A Celebration of Viola’s Life will be held at Parkland Funeral Home, 6287 – 67 A Street (Taylor Drive), Red Deer, Alberta on Monday, July 22, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. For those unable to attend, the Life Celebration will be Live Streamed at www.parklandfuneralhome.com.
