Mr. Clifford ‘Cliff’ Stannard passed away peacefully at Extendicare Michener Hill, Red Deer on Monday, February 15, 2021 at the age of 97 years.Cliff was born on May 26, 1923 at Travers, Alberta, the fifth of ten children, to John and Blanche (nee Booth) Stannard. He left home at the age of fifteen, and trailed horses to the Clearview District, near Red Deer. In 1942, he enlisted in the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry; and served on the front lines, until returning home in 1945. He married Betty Scott of the Valley Centre District and purchased land in Clearview, through the Veteran Land Act. He eventually established a Dairy Farm; which he operated with his son and grandson, for sixty years. In his 97 years, Cliff was a wrangler, a soldier, a logger and a farmer. He was a lover of the land, and of animals, and a believer in the value of hard work; a much respected friend to many, a neighbor you could count on, and a devoted family man. Cliff will be lovingly remembered by his loving companion, Marge MacDonald, his sons, Dale (Pat) of Red Deer and Lyle of Rocky Mountain House, his grandson, Adam (Laura) of Edinburgh, Scotland, his granddaughter, Christine Cuthbert of Calgary and his five great grandchildren in Scotland, Carter (Christine), Isaac, Kaden, Bain and Rosa Stannard. He will also be sadly missed by his two surviving siblings, Don Stannard of Rimbey and Joe (Dolly) Stannard of Spruceview, and a host of nieces and nephews. Cliff was predeceased by his wife, Betty and his much loved granddaughter, Jessica. The family wishes to thank Dr. Derick Rautenbach for his compassionate care of Cliff and the Staff at Extendicare Michener Hill, Unit 3600, for their kindness and attention.
