Two Red Deer swimmers will be representing Canada internationally next month.

The 18-year-old Red Deer native, who currently lives and trains in Toronto, swam at the 2018 Commonwealth Games and was a member of the  4×200-m freestyle relay team that brought home silver. Smith finished fifth in the 50-m butterfly and sixth in the 100-m butterfly, establishing personal bests in both events.

Smith won four medals at the 2017 FINA World Junior Championships in Indianapolis and a bronze at the 2017 FINA World Championships in Budapest.

Tammy Cunnington is one of 13 women who will wear the maple leaf at the Pan Pacific Para Swimming Championship in Australia, Aug. 9-13.

The 42-year-old has competed for Canada at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games, Parapan Am Games and IPC Swimming World Championships.

Cunnington broke the Canadian record in the 50-m freestyle at the 2017 Para-swimming Canadian Open. At the 2017 Can Am Para-swimming Championships, she finished with two silver medals in the 50-m backstroke and butterfly, and two bronze medals in the 50-m and 100-m freestyle.

Smith and Cunnington were selected after the Canadian Swimming Trials wrapped up Sunday in Edmonton.
