Group use campground fees in Brazeau County set to increase

Jun 20, 2018 | 12:33 PM

Hauling the trailer out and roasting smores over a campfire in a Brazeau County group use campground will start to cost you more come 2019.

Brazeau County council voted unanimously to raise the fees on Tuesday come next year, after rates remaining unchanged for over a decade.

There are two group campgrounds in the county, Easyford and Modeste. Both sites are extremely popular and are reserved for a vast majority of the summer months.

The fees for campground rentals have not been adjusted since the current rates were established in 2005. That has resulted in a net loss of over $8,200 for the 2018 season, with costs heavily outweighing revenues.

The hike will result in nearly a 50 per cent increase in cost for the 2019 camping season, and an additional 38 per cent hike forecasted in 2020.

The cost to rent a site for a weekend will go from $200 to $300 in 2019 and then to $400 in 2020. A three-day weekend will currently set you back $250, but will shoot to $350 in 2019 and $500 in 2020. If you want to stay a full week, campers must shell out $600 now, ballooning to $900 in 2019 and $1,300 in 2020.

Brazeau County says the increase in fees will bring the sites in line with other group campgrounds in the region.
