Red Deer’s U17 Boys Renegades captured a Gold medal at the Sam Steele Soccer tournament in Cranbrook, B.C. over the weekend.

Head Coach Gerald Grobmeier says the team played four teams from B.C., winning 4-1, 4-0, 3-0 and 3-2 in the final against Cranbrook. A game in which Cranbrook took the lead twice only to see the Renegades score the winner with roughly one minute remaining.

Nathan Swartz led the team offensively with six goals during the weekend.

Elsewhere, the U12 Boys Renegades captured a Bronze medal in the Celtic Division at the Caledonia Cup soccer tournament in Edmonton over the weekend.

Red Deer lost its first two games 2-1 and 4-1 to Edmonton’s Scottish United and Sherwood Park Phoenix respectively but won its third game 4-2 over the Foothills 06 Prospects on Sunday to capture Bronze.
