Team Jigger Tournament is back with 2026 sledge hockey weekend

The Team Jigger Para Hockey Tournament and ‘Try-It’ sessions are back this weekend, Oct 24-25 at Red Deer’s Dawe Centre.

Team Jigger is an organization founded several years ago to help those experiencing life-changing physical disabilities regain independence, confidence, and a continued quality of life.

This weekend, Team Jigger junior and senior squads will both be in action, with teams joining from Medicine Hat, Calgary, and Edmonton.

“Our two teams consist of around 30 incredible athletes, ages eight and up, with varying abilities, who are passionate about para hockey,” explains Ray Wasdal, Team Jigger coordinator.

“Beyond the ice, they are working or going to school and are learning invaluable life skills that help them become leaders in our community. Their dedication demonstrates the positive power of sport for people of all abilities, driven by perseverance and hard work. So please come out and cheer us on.”

In addition to the tournament, the public is invited to take part in the aforementioned ‘Try-It’ sessions. Those are free, and equipment is provided. If you can bring your own helmet, great, but they will provide one if necessary.

The tournament is seeking raffle and auction items, and has sponsorship opportunities. For more information, call Ray Wasdal at 403-318-3623.
