It is with great sadness that the family of Donna Vig announces her passing on September 29^th, 2026, at Red Deer Regional Hospital, at the age of 83

Donna was born on December 29, 1942, the youngest of nine children born to Carl and Letita Vig. She grew up on the family farm near Bentley, Alberta, surrounded by a large and close extended family

Being the youngest of nine made Donna’s place in the family rather unique. She was 27 years younger than her oldest sister and, remarkably, was already an aunt on the day she was born. She became a great-aunt at just 13 years old and a great-great-aunt by the age of 36. With generations of family overlapping throughout her life, Donna had an easy ability to relate to family members of all ages

Donna was predeceased by her parents, Carl and Letitia, and her eight siblings: Elsie, Chester, Howard, Doris, Carl, Bernice, Delbert and Doreen

She is lovingly remembered by her four sons: Darby, Dan (Bonnie), Darren (Monique), and Dayton. Grandchildren: Shawn (Nathalie), Sheldon and Sarah (Charles). Travis, Sharie, Jeana and Danie. Tia (Kash), Tyler and Layne. Terrence, Jade and Sage. And many great-grandchildren she loved dearly

Donna also leaves behind a large extended family of nieces, nephews and generations of family who will remember her fondly

Although Donna experienced a number of health challengers later in life, she remained genuinely appreciative of those who cared for her. Her family would like to acknowledge the many wonderful healthcare workers and staff who helped Donna along the way. Wherever she received care, she was grateful for the kindness and compassion show to her

As the youngest and last surviving member of her family of nine children, Donna’s passing marks the end of a generation in the Vig family. Her memory, however, will live on through her sons and the many generations of extended family whose lives were connected to hers

Donna will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by her family and all who knew her.
