Dayton adds that no matter who we are, we all have a connection to the war effort, be it from WWI, WWII, or later conflicts.

She says it’s important to continue talking about what happened, sharing that in her 20+ years with the Legion, it’s become clear that not all veterans are open about their experience.

“There’s so much that we don’t know,” she says.

“But this crosswalk is incredible, and I’m really proud. It’s more than just paint on a roadway.”

The project gained final approval from town council earlier this year.

Funding for it came from the town’s 2026 operating budget.
