Hingley, Carol Jean (Gladwin) – Age 82, of Middle Musquodoboit, Nova Scotia. The family are saddened to report, but grateful for a life well lived, that Carol passed away peacefully on September 6, 2026, at home. She was the fourth child of a close-knit family of six siblings, the second daughter of the late Angus and Emma (Dechman) Gladwin. Born in Middle Musquodoboit, she lived in Dartmouth NS, Wellington NS, and had just recently moved to Innisfail, Alberta.
She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Lawrence (Laurie) Scott, and their children Catherine (Gino), Gatineau, Quebec and Craig (Tara), Gleniffer Lake, Alberta and adored granddaughter Jacy Lyan (Edmonton). She was predeceased by son Christopher Scott.
Carol is also survived by her sister, Louise (Dale) and brothers Charlie (Jeannie), John (Betty) and Bill and a large number of nieces and nephews from both sides of her family.
Predeceased by her sisters Mary Muriel (infant), Edith Grace (infant) and Fran Merryweather (Danny) and sisters-in-law Annie, Bertha, Muriel, Maxine, Aileen, Norma, and Marjorie; and brothers-in-law, Parker, Ernest, Earl, Preston, Russell, Ronald, Robert and Fleming.
Carol grew up on a farm, where she learned the value of hard work and a life-long love of animals and the country. She loved sports, music and her family.
Mom trained and worked as a Registered Nurse, eventually retiring from the Dartmouth General Hospital. She and Laurie built a home in Wellington, Nova Scotia where they lived for over 50 years. They grew strong roots in the community, being very involved in their local United Church and always willing to help a friend or neighbour. Carol volunteered many hours in service to her church – including as a member of the choir for many years – and the surrounding communities.
She inherited a love of crafts and handiwork from her mother Emma and liked nothing better than to share her skill with her granddaughter Jacy. Carol was a determined collector of quilting fabric, yarn and patterns and created lovely items for her friends and family.
Carol and Laurie made the monumental decision to downsize in order to move closer to family and had just settled in Innisfail, Alberta earlier this summer. They were enjoying time with their son, daughter-in-law and most of all Jacy.
Sadly, after a short illness, Carol unexpectedly passed away in her sleep. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Laurie, Cathy and Craig want to thank everyone who offered so much support over the past months and years, in particular Danielle and Paul Taylor and grandniece Cheryl Anne Trites.
