Red Deer surgeons embrace transformative robotic technology
Surgeons at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre are now in possession of advanced technology that has changed the way surgery is performed.
Since May, four physicians in Red Deer have performed 81 robot-assisted surgeries using the da Vinci surgical system.
The surgeries that have been performed in Red Deer using the technology are cancer-related, including kidney, prostate and bladder. More surgeons will also soon start learning how to use the system.
Urologist Dr. Stephanus Van Zyl said it’s been 10 years in the making.
