2003 ~ Chance Bryan Richard Coulic ~ 2026 "Chance was kind, empathetic, loving, funny, and touched far more people than he ever knew. His loss leaves a tremendous emptiness that can never be filled."

Chance Bryan Richard Coulic passed away, surrounded with so much love by the people who meant the most to him, at the Red Deer Hospice on Thursday, September 3, 2026, at the age of 22 years.

Chance was born on December 11, 2003, in Red Deer, Alberta where he lived until 2017 when he and his mom moved to Blackfalds to enjoy the small town, quieter life. It was about this time when he took an interest in airsoft and joined the RAAT’s Nest Airsoft club that enacted mock battles on a field once a week; but more importantly he developed friendship bonds that helped carry him through some of his toughest days of his battle with cancer.

Chance also had a love of photography, which took him on back road evening or Sunday drives searching for the perfect shot of an abandoned vehicle, or old farmhouse, or a beautiful sunset. And like anything else he took an interest in, he gave it his all and excelled at it. He even got a couple of his photos published on Jones Sodas pop bottle labels.

He was an avid lover of history, and all things vintage which led him to spend any spare time he could treasure hunting at flea markets, online, and in thrift stores. Chance was a bit of a collector of everything from Hot Wheels to watches to war memorabilia to shoes to Pokémon to cassette tapes. Speaking of cassette tapes, his music tastes were unmatched, his play list spanned generations from the 1920’s to current day and every genre you could imagine and then a few you’ve never heard of.

Chance graduated from Lacombe Composite High School in 2022. He acquired his Beekeeping Technician Green Certificate in Agriculture Training that he was very proud of. He also worked with the goat keeping program. In the past couple of years, he had been taking horse riding lessons as he loved being around horses and always had a special way with them. Chance was a lover of all animals, and they seemed to be just as drawn to him as he was to them. Chance had just completed his first-year Heavy-Duty Parts Apprenticeship at Red Deer Polytechnic before he got sick and was looking forward to getting back to work at Peterbilt in Red Deer.

Chance dreamed of travelling the world, although he didn’t quite get to fulfill that dream, he did enjoy numerous trips to Washington to visit his uncle and cousin. He also loved his family vacations with his dad that included Seattle, Disneyland, Las Vegas, and most recently Mexico. He loved the mountains and was also able to do one last trip to Banff with his mom and sister. Chance also really enjoyed the simple things like watching a good movie, sitting around a backyard fire with family and friends, or just watching the night sky and the stars.

Chance was an old soul in a young body that was taken far too soon. He was a warrior who fought with strength, courage, and bravery until the very end. He faced life with the same courage and heart he admired in his favorite movie heroes, Maximus from Gladiator and the Warriors of 300. Chance was kind, empathetic, loving, funny, and touched far more people than he ever knew. His loss leaves a tremendous emptiness that can never be filled.

He will be lovingly remembered by his mother, Shannon (Vohne); his father, Bill (Holley, and her daughter, Bree); his sister, Taryn (Matt); his niece and nephews, Jasper, Adaline, & Rowen; as well as numerous extended family members and dear friends. Chance is predeceased by his cat and best friend of fifteen years, Sebastian, who never left his side; his brother-in-law, Aaron; and his auntie, Julie. Chance will forever remain in the hearts of those who were privileged to know and love him.

A Celebration of Chance’s Life will be held at a later date.
