It is with deep sorrow that the family of Mr. David Norman Strohschein of Wimborne, Alberta, announces his passing on Sunday, August 30, 2026, at the age of 70 years.
Dave was born to Bill and Gladys Strohschein on September 21, 1955, the third of six children. He spent his childhood on the family farm near Wimborne, Alberta. Following his high school years, he went to work in the oil and gas industry and spent most of his career employed on the drilling rigs. He worked his way up from Roughneck to Rig Manager, and he very much enjoyed this life. When work was slow, he spent some years doing Canada/USA long-haul trucking.
Dave always loved machines, and for many years his hobby was restoring old vehicles. He spent many hours searching for specific parts that he needed and had no problem driving long distances to pick them up. It wasn’t uncommon for him to drive to Texas to a swap meet because they might have a part for a current project.
He also had a lifelong love of dogs, and after retirement, he began fostering dogs. He cared for approximately 20 dogs over the past five years, some with challenges that he worked hard to help them overcome. He loved them all, and they in turn loved and trusted him.
Dave enjoyed his quiet life on his acreage, spending time with family and visiting with neighbours and friends. He liked taking road trips and was always ready for a lively discussion about current events or what makes people tick, as well as hosting family gatherings at his place.
Dave passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on August 30, 2026, at his home due to a major heart event. He will be greatly missed.
Dave is survived by his brothers Emrie Strohschein, Steve (Sharon) Strohschein, Alvin (Ruth) Strohschein, and his sister Lorraine (Brent) Murdoch, as well as his brother-in-law Randy Dennis, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Bill (1997) and Gladys (2012); sister-in-law Marlaine Strohschein (2013); and sister Sylvia Dennis (2019).
There will be no funeral service, but family and friends are warmly invited to a come-and-go luncheon at the Wimborne Community Hall, 109 – 1 Street S, Wimborne, Alberta on Saturday, October 17, 2026, from 1–3 p.m. Private burial will take place at the Wimborne Cemetery.
