We are saddened to announce the passing of Evelyn Rosa Thompson (nee Bakke) of Red Deer, Alberta, on Friday, August 21, 2026, at the age of 87 years. Born to parents Clarence and Lena (nee Rainer) Bakke on Saturday, May 6, 1939, in Daysland, Alberta, Evelyn was raised on a farm and was the youngest of five siblings. She attended school in Rosalind, Alberta, where she excelled in sports and was raised in a musical family. Evelyn then married the love of her life, Jim Thompson, in 1957. They then had three children, Cindy, Marty, and Darren. Evelyn loved attending rodeos, camping, and hunting by Jim’s side. Her personal interests were wide and varied. She loved country music, bingo, garage sales, and most importantly, watching her grandchildren’s recitals, tournaments, and hockey games. Evelyn is lovingly survived by her three children, Cindy Thompson of Red Deer, Alberta, Marty (Cheryl) Thompson of Victoria, British Columbia, Darren (Susan) Thompson of Lacombe County, Alberta; her seven grandchildren, Brad (Beth), Jenna (Dave), Dylan (Carly), Megan (Jacob), Emily (Meghan), Carter (Tamara) and Haley (Mike); two great-grandchildren, Katelyn and Wyatt; one sister, Dorothy Boden; and two sister-in-laws, Pauline and Freida. Evelyn is predeceased by her loving husband, Jim Thompson; her parents, Clarence and Lena Bakke; her sister, Hilda (nee Bakke) Zimmerman; and her two brothers, Ed and Cliff Bakke. A private service in Evelyn’s honour will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Evelyn’s honour may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
