Trixie Ruth Sokoloff passed away peacefully on August 26th, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on September 25th, 1960, at Springdale, Newfoundland and Labrador, and was fiercely proud of her roots to the Rock.
Trixie was a traveler from childhood, and was variously a resident of numerous Newfoundland lighthouses (Cape John, the Horse Chops, English Harbour) Little Bay Islands, Walton’s Mountain, and Manuels (Newfoundland and Labrador), Jakarta (Indonesia), Vung Tau (Vietnam), Fort St. John (British Columbia), Red Deer, Wellington Station (Nova Scotia), Calgary, Moscow (Russia), Kneehill County, and Blackfalds. Her openness to new experiences and her kindness won her new friends wherever she went (especially if they brought wine).
She was a lover of the natural world. This inspired her deep devotion to many different animals, and her lifelong passion for photography, art, and the great outdoors. Her keen attention to detail served her well in her career as an administrator and tax professional (she was a finance hero for so many people), and her endless empathy and patience made her a stellar educator in both Red Deer and Calgary. Through many volunteer stints with the Girl Guides of Canada, the Mustard Seed, and many other organizations she always strove to make her community better. Trixie leaves a lasting legacy in the landscapes she captured and in the lives she touched, particularly her family and friends who will remember her warmth, humour, and kindness.
Trixie is survived by David Short Sokoloff, her loving husband of 41 years, her three children: Paul Clayton (David Carpenter), Joseph David, Katherine Margaret (Sean Halliday), her nephew Michael Todd Fred Bowers (Kindrie Bowers), her father Clayton Frederick Bowers, her sisters Trudy Bowers-Flinn (Bob Flinn) and Bev Bowers-Shepperd (Jason Shepperd), her brother Barry Bowers, and many loving in-laws, nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her mother Marion Elsie Bowers.
