It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we announce the passing of Richard Karl Jackson, beloved son, brother, and uncle on Sunday July 26th at the age of 69 after a short and courageous battle with cancer.
Richard Karl Jackson was born to Robert and Katherine Jackson (Harder) on January 3rd, 1957, at CFB Cold Lake, AB. Our family moved all across Canada, BC, Ontario, New Brunswick, and Alberta as well Great Falls, Montana.
At times he had to be more of an older brother than middle brother. Karl was an adventurous soul and when he was 15 or 16 years old, he struck out on his own and traveled to Utah, Arizona, California (and various other states) before making his way back to Ontario and eventually New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. He traveled back to Alberta with our family in 1977 where he finally set down roots in Red Deer, AB. He worked as a laborer, welder, and equipment operator throughout his career.
He is survived by his mother Katherine Jackson, his 2 brothers, Bob Jackson, Anthony Jackson, and 3 sisters Kathy Murdock (Ty Desjardins), Teresa Zieverink (Leo), and Sandra Meunier (Mark), and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father Robert Lee Jackson.
Karl was a kind and devoted son to his mother Katherine and a good friend and brother to all his siblings and brothers-in-law.
He was a collector of many things, books, music, electronics, vehicles, and anything Coca-Cola related. If he couldn’t fix it, he stripped it down and saved it for recycling. He also enjoyed building small furniture with reclaimed wood (mostly from pallets). He enjoyed playing slow pitch and darts with his family friends. Karl was an avid reader and had an impressive collection of books.
He will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts. Karl will always be part of our lives and thoughts.
Somewhere in our dreams, we’ll see you standing there and you’ll look upon us with a smile, “Life isn’t always fair” but we go on holding onto our memories.
Go in peace dear son, brother, uncle, and friend.
