Central Alberta golfers competed in big tournaments this week

Young central Alberta golfers were all over the map this week.

The 2026 Canadian Junior Girls Championship was held at TPC Toronto and featured Red Deer’s Eileen Park finishing at even par, tied for seventh.

Park shot 70-69-73-72, moving down three spots on the final day, and ending up 11 strokes off the pace.

Saylar May of Rocky Mountain House finished +13 and tied for 24th.

Coryn Tardif of Sylvan Lake finished +21 and tied for 43rd.

Raylee Denton shot +27 and ended up in a tie for 60th. Denton’s score was also good enough for a tie of 39th on the Juvenile Girls leaderboard.

Park will now compete in the CPKC Canadian Women’s Open in Edmonton from Aug. 20-23.

Meanwhile, the Canadian Junior Boys Championship was going on in Regina this week.

There, Red Deer’s Bennett Love was the top local competitor, but he unfortunately missed the cut at +8, four strokes off the cutline.

Love fired a tough first round of 82, but to his credit, he was the only cut player to shoot under par in round two with a 70.
