It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Michael Stephen Loughlin. Michael passed away at Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre on July 20th, 2026, at the age of 77. Michael was a beloved son, brother, friend and grandfather, but most importantly he was a father to his pride and joy, his son, Mitchell. He was most known for his sense of humour, his love of telling a joke and seeing if he could get you to laugh, but not without starting to laugh himself first.
Michael spent many years as a letter carrier for Canada Post, in Red Deer. A job that brought him much joy and many stories to tell. He also loved to tell stories of his college basketball days. If you spent any length of time with him though, you would know his favourite topic was his son, and how proud he was of him.
Michael is predeceased by his parents John and Fay Loughlin, brothers Robert, Terry, Ron and sister Maureen. Left to mourn him are his brothers Dennis (Rosanna), Ted (Terri) and Pat (Sashi), his sister Therese (Len), as well as countless nieces and nephews. Michael also leaves behind his beloved son Mitchell (Molly) and grandchildren Eloise, Rourke and a new grandchild expected in October.
The family would like to thank the Village of Elnora for the kindness, love and care, Michael received from his neighbours and friends after he moved from Red Deer to be part of a smaller, close-knit community. We would also like to thank home care, the doctors and nurses at Three Hills Health Centre and Red Deer Regional Hospital who were with Michael, during his final hours, to care and provide comfort.
A Funeral Mass and reception to celebrate Michael’s life will be held at a later date with details to be announced.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation can be made to Three Hills Health Centre, or Red Deer Regional Hospital Foundation.
Condolences to Michael’s family may be emailed to meaningful@telus.net. Please indicate “Michael Loughlin” in the subject line.
